Josh Heupel says that even the officials want to see a change in rules when it comes to players leaving the game for injuries.

Throughout the 2021 season, Tennessee has seen opposing players leave the game due to “injuries” that tend to happen when the Volunteer offense is driving and trying to play with tempo.

Here’s what Heupel shared in his press conference after the Music City Bowl, per the official transcript:

Q. Josh, do you support some kind of mandatory cooling off period for injured players before returning to the game or is that just the reality of the sport?

JOSH HEUPEL: No, it’s crazy. The officials wanted that tonight. I thought that was pretty comical they came up to me and said that.

Q. They said they wanted a rule change?

JOSH HEUPEL: Yeah. They think there needs to be a rule change.

It’s certainly interesting to know that even the refs want a change to the rules.
