Josh Heupel shared what impresses him the most about Texas A&M play-caller Max Johnson.
In the sophomore quarterbacks’ past 2 starts for the Aggies, he has completed 31-of-53 passes for 449 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
Heupel said that Johnson has the ability to “extend and make plays.”
“He can throw the ball well down field. He’s able to scramble when there’s pressure on him,” Heupel said. “He’s able to play plays when they break down.”
Heupel, noting that Johnson has “played a lot of football” in his life, is used to playing in different environments.
“He does a really good job of taking care of the football,” Heupel said.
With Johnson under center for Texas A&M, Heupel said the Volunteers have to do a “great job of maxing out guys on the perimeter.”
The Aggies are coming off a tough 26-20 loss to No. 11 Alabama this past weekend. Texas A&M had a 17-10 lead at the half, but the Crimson Tide went on a 16-3 run between the third and fourth quarters.
The Volunteers defeated South Carolina, 41-20, in their week five matchup.
Texas A&M (4-2) faces Tennessee on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.
