Joshua Dobbs has found himself quarterbacking two different NFL teams this season, and the journeyman has taken to some unorthodox warm-up routines thus far.

“I like to throw with a rugby ball before practice, it’s kinda like the baseball bat and the doughnut,” Dobbs said. “The rugby ball is a bit slicker, so then when you put a nice QB ball in your hands it feels pretty good.”

Dobbs says that plenty of his teammates have asked him about the routine and that he has even gotten some of the receivers to join in and catch some rugby balls. He hopes that it might become a new trend.

“There’s no science behind this, I’m not gonna sit up here and act like there is,” Dobbs, who has a degree in aerospace engineering from Tennessee, said. “It’s just something I started doing one offseason. I’m sure at one point that someone will try to break it down and add some science to it.”

Dobbs was the quarterback for the Volunteers from 2013-2016, finishing his career with 7,138 passing yards, 2,160 rushing yards and 85 total touchdowns. After hopping from team to team over a 6-year NFL career, he seems to have found a home with the Minnesota Vikings. Last weekend, he led them to a 31-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
