Alabama offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor sustained a left shoulder injury during warmups for the Crimson Tide’s season-opener against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and was forced to miss the game in light of it.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer offered an update on the status of the offensive lineman when he met with the media Wednesday on the weekly Southeastern Conference teleconference.

“I can’t say one way or the other way where that would be (for Saturday) as of right now,” DeBoer said. “With still three days left before we play.”

DeBoer had previously said earlier in the week that Proctor has “strong aspirations” to return for action in time for the team’s next matchup on the schedule against the South Florida Bulls on Saturday. Before that, DeBoer had referred to Proctor’s injury as “manageable.”

“He’s working towards it,” DeBoer said during the Southeastern Conference coaches call Wednesday. “We’ll have to kind of see right towards the end of the week. If it was up to him, you know, he’d probably be out there but we got to be smart and that means that these days earlier in the week, we’ve got to be smart and careful. He’s doing really well. He’s pretty much living in the training room. He’s got strong aspirations to get on the field as fast as possible. I can’t say one way or the other kind of where that would be as of right now with still three days left before we play.”

It will be interesting to see what Proctor’s status ultimately is when Alabama and USF kick off in Tuscaloosa at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday.
