Kalen DeBoer says Alabama planning ‘modified’ A-Day spring game for April
Kalen DeBoer is toeing the line when it comes to the annual A-Day spring game tradition in Tuscaloosa.
The Crimson Tide head coach isn’t throwing the game away totally, as some programs are around the country. But he also won’t be playing it all straight up like it’s been for all these years.
That means the whole A-Day presentation will lie somewhere in between, according to what DeBoer told On3 this week.
“A lot of times here, the A-Day Game, it’s been more of a practice, and there’s been some scrimmaging, not necessarily much of a game,” said Kalen DeBoer, who’s going into his 2nd season at Alabama. “Even when I was at Fresno State, we called it the spring preview. Especially this year, there’s some things we’re working through with some injuries and so forth. So, it’ll definitely be modified. We want to try to have some type of event around April 12.”
That would be Saturday, April 12, to be exact.
Notable programs like Texas, Nebraska, USC and more have already decided to cancel their spring games, going with the changing times in college football.
The reasons for those cancellations have varied, but some of them are because these programs that claim to be collegiate are going after an NFL model. Another big reason is because some coaches don’t want other programs to be able to see their players right before the spring transfer portal window opens.
But while Alabama won’t be doing its usual A-Day thing, it sounds like it will at least have a nice version of the springtime tradition in Tuscaloosa.
