Kalen DeBoer speaks to Jalen Milroe’s growth after 4 TD performance vs. Georgia
Kalen DeBoer believed he saw a breakthrough in Jalen Milroe’s play over the past 2 weeks of practice — and that bore itself out on Saturday night in Alabama’s win over No. 2 Georgia.
Milroe was sensational all night long, particularly in the first half. But even after Alabama’s offense stalled after the break, Milroe still made a go-ahead touchdown throw to Ryan Williams in the game’s final minutes.
He finished with 374 passing yards and 4 total touchdowns (2 passing, 2 rushing) on the night. In DeBoer’s on-field interview after the game, DeBoer spoke about the growth that he’s seen in his starting quarterback over the early part of this season.
“Coming out of the gates, I really felt like the last 2 weeks of practice, there were some steps that were made,” DeBoer told ABC’s Laura Rutledge after the game. “Some little things. He’s got more ahead of him too. There’s more of him to go. He did a great job. We gave him some time. He got comfortable. He did it with his legs and through the air.”
In the midst of this game, Milroe became the leader in the race for the Heisman Trophy according to most sportsbooks. He how has 18 total touchdowns on the season as he’s led Alabama to a remarkable 4-0 start under DeBoer.
Alabama will go on the road to face Vanderbilt next weekend.
