Report: Kansas has ‘legit interest’ in Les Miles as next head coach

Whenever a coaching vacancy pops up, the name of former LSU head coach Les Miles always seems to hover around the edges of a possibility.
It’s not without reason, given he won 114 games and a national championship with the Tigers. His name has been connected to previous openings at Michigan and Arizona. Fans of Maryland and Kansas began to float Miles’ name as a replacement for D.J. Durkin or David Beaty respectively over the weekend.
Bruce Feldman of The Athletic now says there could be “legit interest” in the Mad Hatter from the Jayhawks.
Tough deal for David Beaty at #KU.. Jayhawks, 3-5 this year, have improved a bunch since he took over. Kansas source said there is legit interest in former LSU coach Les Miles> he and JeffLong go way back. Concerns tho are how hard you have to grind to build KU up in the Big12.

As Berry Tramel of NewsOK noted earlier this year, Kansas Athletic Director Jeff Long has some thin strings attached to Miles that go all the way back to the early 2000s.
While it seems like a long shot that Miles would head to Lawrence and take on a complete rebuild, SEC fans know they should never count out what the former LSU coach could do next. He has always had some kind of trick up his sleeve.
Beaty will coach the team’s remaining games, so we’ll likely have to wait until the offseason to find out if Miles will take the job.
