Kansas State University was the talk of the first college football Saturday, and it wasn’t because of anything the football team did.
It was the band’s halftime performance.
The Wildcats’ band director thought he had some explaining to do after his group gave this halftime performance:
Tell me this isn’t a Jayhawk and “something” going into its mouth. You can’t convince me otherwise. pic.twitter.com/xajPEJoK1V

The band director issued an apology after social media made the performance go viral and accused the university of a X-rated formation:
We apologize for anyone offended by our halftime performance depicting the starship enterprise and the Jayhawk mascot. — KState Marching Band (@KStatePride) September 6, 2015
The band director even put the formation on Facebook to clarify with the following statement:
“The chart below represents the drill from tonight’s show. There was absolutely no intent to display anything other than the Enterprise and the Jayhawk in battle. If I am guilty of anything it would be the inability to teach the drill in a manner that these young people could have succeeded. I do apologize for the misinterpretation and I assure you that I meant absolutely no disrespect or malice toward the University of Kansas.”
Frank Tracz
Director of the K-State Marching Band
Social media, however, may not be buying the clarification of the formation:
Imagine the precision it took for #KState band to pull off that “starship enterprise”.

The KState marching band’s formation doesn’t even make sense. Why do it during the first game of the year if it isn’t against KU?

Props to #KState marching band. I mean if you are going to get banned from performing, make it memorable. They did that if nothing else
