Texas A&M’s 59-7 win over Northwestern State on Thursday was a coming-out party for Jace Sternberger.

The junior tight end struggled to get on the field during his first two seasons at Kansas, but caught two touchdowns in the first half of his first game as an Aggie.

Sternberger finished the game with five catches for 56 yards and two scores, and looked to be one of Kellen Mond’s favorite targets.

On Monday, Mond discussed with the media what Sternberger brings to this Texas A&M offense:

“I feel like coach Fisher has a lot of trust in him, a lot of plays are not necessarily called for him but give him a lot of opportunities to get matched up with a lot of linebackers,” said Mond. “He’s also 245 pounds but runs like a receiver so, (I have) a lot of confidence in him. Really looking forward to him having another great game this week.”

With No. 2 Clemson coming to College Station later this week, Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies have a chance to really garner some national attention with how they perform. We’ll see if this offensive duo is as deadly as it looked in week one.
