Kellen Mond reacts to Minnesota Vikings trading for QB

The Minnesota Vikings traded for fifth-year quarterback Nick Mullens on Monday, which isn’t all that consequential for starter Kirk Cousins but it’s a huge deal for current backups, Kellen Mond and Sean Mannion.

The trade is perhaps the worst news for Mond, who was a star quarterback at Texas A&M before being taken with pick No. 66 (third round) of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Vikings.

You draft a quarterback that high because you believe they’re the future, but a move like this certainly makes it seem like Minnesota wouldn’t be comfortable with either Mond or Mannion if Kirk Cousins were to miss time for any reason.

Making things worse for the former SEC quarterback is the fact that he has no idea what this trade means for his future.

“I also don’t want to assume, especially if I really don’t know,” Mond said about his future with the team, per Chris Tomasson. “Obviously, this is a business and anything can happen in the NFL. So I wouldn’t assume and we really have no idea”

Mond has only thrown 3 regular-season passes in his short NFL career. He completed just 10-of-20 passes for 82 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions in Minnesota’s last preseason game.
