Kennedy Urlacher, son of Bears legend Brian Urlacher, enters transfer portal
Kennedy Urlacher is bolting from Notre Dame after just 1 season in South Bend.
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound safety and son of Chicago Bears legend Brian Urlacher told On3 on Wednesday that he’s entering the transfer portal. Urlacher will have 3 years of eligibility left starting this fall.
The former 3-star prospect appeared in 14 games as a freshman last fall in a reserve and special teams role. Urlacher made 12 total tackles, 1 for a loss, had 1 pass defended and 1 fumble recovery in what turned out to be his lone season at Notre Dame. Instead of staying in South Bend after the Fighting Irish advanced to the national title game in 2024, Urlacher is headed elsewhere in 2025.
As a prospect, Urlacher was the 91st-ranked safety in the country and was the 19th-best player from the state of Arizona. Urlacher committed to Notre Dame on May 1, 2023, choosing the Fighting Irish over Miami, Penn State, TCU, Kansas State and Illinois.
Urlacher’s departure on the first day of the spring transfer window leaves Notre Dame with 10 rostered scholarship safeties. Urlacher might have had a hard time getting more playing time in 2025 in South Bend, with the Fighting Irish boasting a deep secondary coming out of the spring. That group was made stronger with the addition of graduate transfers Jalen Stroman from Virginia Tech and DeVonta Smith from Alabama during the winter transfer window.
