Kentucky lost Friday’s Music City Bowl to No. 21 Northwestern on a last-second failed 2-point conversion attempt.
Head coach Mark Stoops made the decision to go for two after the Wildcats scored a late touchdown, as opposed to kicking an extra point and sending the game to overtime.
Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart offered his opinion on the late-game decision.
“We came here to win,” Barnhart said. “In the regular season sometimes, those decisions are different. But you get to postseason play with a quarterback that’s a little banged up who fought that hard … I’m fine with whichever way we wanted to go.
“I think the kids wanted to go for it, and they wanted to try and win it,” the ‘Cats AD added. “I don’t fault the effort at all. I think they really battled and they deserved to have the opportunity in their hands.”
While the decision didn’t work out for Kentucky, it certainly showed a lot of guts.
The Wildcats finished the season with a 7-6 record.
