The Kentucky baseball team has taken major strides during the time that Nick Mingione has been the coach, and he was rewarded with a new contract on Friday.
The contract runs through 2028, the program announced.
“My family and I are excited and thankful to continue building a championship baseball program at the University of Kentucky,” Mingione said in a statement. “This is a testament to the players and staff over our seven years here and those who came before us.
“I appreciate Mr. Barnhart and Dr. Capilouto for the opportunity they have given me to lead our young men as students, in life and in baseball. The Big Blue Nation has embraced Christen, Reeves and me in truly remarkable fashion and we look forward to the years ahead.”

Kentucky has two NCAA regional championships and has won at least 40 games twice in the seven years that Mingione has been the coach. They had only five seasons in the previous 100-years of Kentucky baseball.
The Wildcats are coming off one of their best seasons in the program’s history. They made it to the Super Regionals for only the second time, losing to eventual national champion LSU. It was only the second NCAA Regional Championship in program history.
Mingione is currently third all-time in wins at Kentucky, trailing only Keith Madison and Gary Henderson.
