Kentucky has its quarterback in the 2027 class.
On Monday night, Mark Stoops and the Wildcats landed a commitment from Knoxville (Tenn.) Bearden quarterback DJ Hunter. While Hunter plays his high school ball just down the street from Tennessee, he’s actually a Lexington native. He becomes the first recruit to pledge to Kentucky in the 2027 class.
Hunter is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound quarterback prospect. He does not currently have a star rating or a grade in the industry-generated 247 Composite, but that will certainly change when the outlet gets to his class.
During the 2024 season, Hunter was limited to 8 games because of an injury. In his appearances, he completed 53.5% of his throws for 1,431 yards and 9 touchdowns while adding another 3 scores on the ground. In 7 starts as a freshman, Hunter threw for 1,135 yards and 10 touchdowns with 5 interceptions while adding 1 rushing score.

All eyes are on the quarterback spot heading into the 2025 season for Kentucky. The Wildcats signed 2 freshmen passers in the 2025 class — both of whom enrolled early — and brought a third in via the transfer portal. Kentucky is said to be looking to add a 2026 quarterback as well.
Derek Peterson does a bit of everything, not unlike Taysom Hill. He has covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Pac-12, and now delivers CFB-wide content.
