Kentucky introduced Daikiel Shorts as the next wide receivers coach in Lexington on Tuesday.

Shorts was at Houston in a similar role from 2021-2023 and was also the Director of Player Development there from 2019-2020. Shorts coached Cougars standout receiver Tank Dell, who is now with the Houston Texans.

Here’s what Shorts had to say about his new opportunity with Kentucky in a press release:

“I’m very excited to be a part of the Big Blue Nation,” Shorts said. “The opportunity to work under Mark Stoops and Liam Coen is very exciting and it’s an opportunity I just couldn’t pass up. I’ve watched over the years what they have been able to accomplish at Kentucky and in the Southeastern Conference and I want to help continue that success.  Coach Coen is one of the brightest offensive minds in the game and I’m very eager to learn under him. I’m already so impressed with the young men in the wide receivers room and I’m ready to bring my energy and passion to this place. I can’t wait.”

Former WR coach Scott Woodward was fired following the end the of the regular season. It was tough year for Kentucky at wideout, with Dane Key leading the team with less than 600 receiving yards.

Kentucky faces Clemson in the Gator Bowl to end the year.
