On Friday, a UK spokesman announced that starting DT Regie Meant is no longer enrolled at the university, and is officially off of the team.

Meant — a 6-foot-4, 302-pound native of Florida — left the team in early August. According to head coach Mike Stoops (per the Courier-Journal), Meant’s initial departure had “nothing to do with football, nothing to do with us or playing or anything like that. It has to do with himself. I ask you to just leave that and respect him.”

Last year as a sophomore, Meant accrued 31 tackles and one sack. Meant’s projected backups — Adrian Middleton, Tymere Dubose, Alvonte Bell, Kengera Daniel — combined for only 10 tackles in 2015.

Middleton appears likely to fill Meant’s vacant spot next to fellow defensive tackle starter Courtney Miggins.
