Kentucky’s breakup with the Air Raid may not be as pronounced as some initially thought.

The Wildcats need to replace Shannon Dawson, who spent just one season in Lexington. And according to Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports, among others, the target will be Cincinnati offensive coordinator Eddie Gran.

A long-time Tommy Tuberville assistant, Gran followed Tuberville from Miami (1990-91) to Ole Miss (1995-98) and Auburn (1999-2008).

Other stops for Gran include Florida State, where he spent three years coaching running backs and special teams. His time at FSU coincided with coach Mark Stoops’ tenure as defensive coordinator for the Seminoles.

Gran is viewed as a high-level recruiter in south Florida. He also runs an up-tempo, pass-heavy offense, which suggests that Stoops doesn’t intend to break far from the Air Raid attacks utilized by previous coordinators Dawson and Neal Brown.

Whether he’ll be able to pry Gran from Tuberville and a competitive American Athletic Conference remains to be seen.

Multiple reports Friday also indicated that wide receivers coach Tommy Mainord will not return, leaving a second offensive vacancy on Stoops’ staff.
