Kerryon Johnson played running back at Auburn from 2015-2017, with his final year being one for the ages. He rushed for 1,391 yards and 18 touchdowns before being drafted by the Detroit Lions with the 43rd pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

He played 3 seasons for the Lions, rushing for 1,225 yards and 8 touchdowns. He spent some time on the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers, but recently moved into the coaching world as he was the director of player development at North Alabama from 2023-24.

On Thursday, it was announced that he was taking a new job, as he was named running backs coach at East Tennessee State:

First year Buccaneers coach Will Healy made the announcement, and in a statement talked about what Johnson can bring to the team.

“I am extremely excited to have Kerryon join our staff,” said Healy. “He had an unbelievable career as a player being named SEC offensive player of the year and was selected in the second round of the NFL draft.  He also quickly has established himself as a phenomenal coach, recruiter, and mentor for young men.  He has been great for our running backs to learn from and has been a pleasure to work with.”

Being able to bring in a coach that was an All-SEC First team RB and the Offensive Player of the Year in the SEC in 2017 is huge for Healy.

The Buccaneers went 7-5 last season, and Healy is looking to build off that heading into 2025.
