What Kevin Sumlin said after his team’s win over Vanderbilt

On Kyle Allen …
We had some consistency — he made some plays, came out throwing it pretty accurate. We’ve still got a ways to go, but our defense played well. It’s a shutout on the road, and in this league, you take that whenever you can get it.
On the defense …
We didn’t allow any points. I don’t know when the last time was we’ve done that. That’s a big deal. It doesn’t matter who you’re playing, particularly on the road. We wanted to get out and create some energy. I thought the energy on the sideline was great and transferred to the field, and our guys made a bunch of plays today, particularly defensively. And special teams were outstanding tonight for us.
On improving for LSU …
We’ve got to keep improving. We’ve got to be consistent offensively — obviously in the red zone. That’s the No. 1 red zone defense in the league. More touchdowns, not set field goal records, like I think we may have tonight. We’ve got to go back on the road this week, and if we can have that kind of energy, we’ve got great support from our fans here — a lot of Aggies here. It’s a big one again next week, at LSU, and we need to try to get No. 9.
On the QB competition …
I think we’re good with where we are right now. We don’t have to announce anything this week. And you guys (on the SEC Network) are good luck, so come on next week, and hopefully we’ll have the same result.
Sumlin: Played with a lot of energy…made adjustments. Guys flew around and made plays. First shutout since 2004. Heck of an effort.

Carson: Good confidence booster. Team got swagger back and we're back on the right track.

Allen: A lot of confidence … especially with the way we've won. This game showed who we are as a team. We have our swagger back.

Sumlin: We moved the ball. Kyle (Allen) came out early and was accurate. Great red zone D. Bertolet was again a weapon for us.

Sumlin: Took care of the ball. No turnovers and won the TO ratio. On the road, to do that was really good.

Sumlin: Special teams were outstanding tonight. Blocked a punt … should have had another one. Good return from Kirk. Covered well. 6 FGs.

Alonzo Williams: First shutout in 11 years. We came in at halftime and wanted the shutout. We came together and pulled it off.

Sumlin: Want to say how much team and coaches appreciate our fans for traveling. I don't know how many Ags were there but it was special.

Hall: Had a good game plan. Coach Chavis and the defensive staff put us in position to make plays.

Sumlin: Pretty happy locker room in there. To get first shutout in 11 years … we're far from over-confident but needed to get confidence.
