Georgia running back Sony Michel did not practice on Wednesday.

The reason for Michel’s absence was not immediately known. There is a good chance the sophomore running back is simply resting his injured groin. Head coach Mark Richt had previously said that some players might be rested this week to enable their injuries to heal.

Michel took over as Georgia’s starting tailback after Nick Chubb suffered a season-ending knee injury. Last week, the sophomore from Plantation, Fla. gained 87 yards on 26 carries in the Bulldogs’ 9-6 win over Missouri. He has rushed for 508 yards and four touchdowns so far this season.

Several other players also sat out the portion of Wednesday’s practice that was open to the media, including linebackers Leonard Floyd and Jordan Jenkins, tight end Jay Rome and defensive linemen James Deloach and John Atkins.

Georgia (5-2, 3-2 in the SEC) is off this week. The Bulldogs return to the field on Oct. 31, when they face rival Florida (6-1, 4-1) in Jacksonville at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.
