Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs picked up a huge win against the Texas Longhorns last weekend and will be off this weekend before the matchup with Florida next weekend
On Wednesday, Smart previewed a key matchup in the rivalry game, sharing his early thoughts on Gators freshman quarterback DJ Lagway.
The freshman quarterback was 1 of the best prospects in the 2024 class, and was a guy that Smart and his staff recruited him in a big way.
Lagway has been playing great since the injury to Graham Mertz, and Smart said it is rare how well the freshman is playing as Florida’s new QB1.
“We recruited DJ,” Smart said during Wednesday’s SEC teleconference. “He’s a great kid — what a great family — and just uber-talented. To come into the SEC and be able to play like he has as a true freshman, it’s rare because the step up is usually so high.”
“He’s got unbelievable arm talent. He can throw the ball the length of the field,” the Georgia coach added.
The Gators started the year 1-2, and things looked bad in Gainesville. Rumors swirled that head coach Billy Napier. Florida has rebounded winning 3 of its last 4 games, with their only loss being at Tennessee in overtime.
