Kirby Smart comments on Georgia’s first-half performance: ‘Hot and cold’

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs haven’t played the type of first half they were expected to as the home team leads Auburn just 14-3 through the first two quarters.
Smart referred to their performance to this point as a “hot and cold” effort.
“Good and bad. Hot and cold,” Smart said before walking into the locker room. “I feel like we can run the ball better than we are. We’ve had 2 runs that almost broke out and should have been explosives. It’s hot. Both teams are reeling a little bit.”
Sputtering on offense in the first half has been a rough theme for Georgia to this point in the season. The Bulldogs had that issue to some extent in the 34-3 win over the Clemson Tigers, the 13-12 narrow road victory over the Kentucky Wildcats and the 41-34 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Through the first half, Georgia has lightly out-gained Auburn, 193-147, totaling 69 rushing yards to Auburn’s 67 rushing yards. Running the ball hard has been a part of Georgia’s traditional identity, but one it has had trouble showing strongly as of recently.
The Bulldogs will look to get on track through the second half, leading 14-3 early in the third quarter at Sanford Stadium.
