Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs saw their second win of the season and the return of running back Trevor Etienne on Saturday as they blasted Tennessee Tech, 48-3 in the home-opener. It went about the way everyone drew it up after the Bulldogs opened the season with a dominant, 34-3 victory in Atlanta.
Smart had previously been pressed about the status of Etienne, which he did not disclose any information on in order to, what seemed to be, protect Etienee from becoming just another headline. It’s hard not to herald Smart for his ethics toward his players and the way he handled being asked borderline excessively about the situation going on with Etienne.
Smart provided comment on Etienne and the rest of Georgia’s running back room Saturday.
“I don’t think we know that yet. It’s hard to tell today … We think we’ve got a really good stable of backs. I’m fired up about our backs.”
Etienne finished out Saturday’s victory as the team’s leading rusher with 5 carries for 78 yards. How he continues not factor into the offense as the season progresses will be something to keep an eye on.
