Kirby Smart discusses message to his team after being ranked No. 1 in final CFP top 25
The final College Football Playoff rankings were revealed Sunday afternoon.
Georgia is the top seed after completing a 13-0 regular season that included an SEC Championship game win over LSU on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs will next face Ohio State on New Years Eve in the CFP semifinals.
With a win in that game, Georgia will play for a 2nd consecutive national championship.
After the Bulldogs was announced as the top seed, head coach Kirby Smart appeared on ESPN to discuss his team’s spot in the CFP and what his team will do to prepare for the Buckeyes.
Among the questions that Smart was asked was about how the Bulldogs will bounce back from allowing 502 passing yards to LSU In the SEC Championship game.
“The message is always going to be consistent,” Smart said. “There are things we can do better in every game. That would be no different than last night. I was really proud of our guys. … We’ve played really good complementary football.”
But Smart quickly added that the defense will have to be better going forward.
“We can’t play the defense we played last night and expect to be any kind of champions — semifinal or national championship,” he said. “We’ve got some work to do. Our guys I know will be excited to get back to work.”
