Kirby Smart gave ways to slow down Missouri’s offense, something he noted that Georgia has to be on high alert since the Tigers are “good at what they do.”
Fresh off a bye week, No. 12 Missouri is set to face No. 2 Georgia this weekend. The Tigers beat South Carolina, 34-12, a couple of weeks ago.
During his live show on Thursday, Smart said one way to slow down the Tigers is to limit their junior quarterback, Brady Cook.
Cook has 2,259 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 3 interceptions so far this season. Smart added that Cook is “elite at getting the ball out quickly.”
“You have to effect the timing in the passing game,” Smart said. “You have to control the line of scrimmage.”
Smart noted people “don’t understand how good” Missouri is at “running the ball.” Senior tailback Cody Schrader leads the pack with 807 rushing yards and nine TDs and averages 5.8 yards-per-carry.
“They have good backs and a very experienced offensive line,” Smart said
Smart complimented the Tigers’ wideouts too. Sophomore receiver Luther Burden III has 61 receptions for 905 yards and six TDs. Senior Theo Wease Jr. has 36 catches for 440 yards and five scores.
“You have to effect timing, you have to bat balls,” Smart said. “You have to knock the ball off their skill players. You can’t give up yards after they catch the ball.”
Missouri and Georgia face off at 3:30 p.m. Saturday on CBS.
