Kirby Smart met with reporters in Athens on Tuesday to discussing multiple topics concerning Georgia football and spring camp.

As Georgia conducts a quarterback battle this offseason, Kirby Smart was asked about Gunner Stockton’s experience as he competes in his 4th spring practice. Smart gave Stockton a lot of credit for being one of the lone veterans on the team.

“He understands what we’re trying to do,” Smart said. “He’s been through it. I think about it, if we had all Gunners at every position, they’d understand the volume of reps, what we’re trying to do. He knows the offense inside and out. And then I get frustrated and impatient when other guys don’t know it like him. And you have to kind of slow yourself down.

“It’s a youthful team. It shows itself in a lot of ways.”

Like many top programs, Georgia lost an enormous amount of production this offseason. The Bulldogs sent 14 players to the 2025 NFL Combine earlier this offseason, which was one of the highest marks in the country.

Stockton is in the running to replace Carson Beck as UGA’s starter in 2025. His primary competition is Ryan Puglisi, although Stockton has a big edge in experience over the former blue-chip prospect. Stockton is entering his 4th year with the program while this will be just the 2nd for Puglisi.

G-Day is scheduled for April 12.
