Ever since Jamie Newman opted out of the 2020 season, JT Daniels and D’Wan Mathis have been battling it out for the Georgia starting quarterback job.
The problem? Daniels, who tore his ACL while with USC last season, has yet to be fully cleared for contact as of Saturday morning.
During an appearance on SEC Nation on Saturday, coach Kirby Smart said Daniels has traveled with the team to Arkansas, but he’s unsure if Daniels will be cleared by game time:
#UGA HC Kirby Smart on SEC Nation just said JT Daniels is still not cleared, as of Saturday morning. Said he doesn’t know if he’ll be cleared by game time.
Is it D’Wan Mathis time today?

What could happen between now and 4 p.m. Eastern time with Daniels’ knee to get him cleared? That’s uncertain at this time.
For now, though, it seems Mathis is the likely option to start the Week 1 matchup for the Bulldogs.
