Kirby Smart and Georgia have the chance to make history this season as one of the only teams to win 3 national championships in a row. The Bulldogs would be the first team to do so in the College Football Playoff era, and the first ever since the 1930s.

Smart joined The College GameDay Podcast this week to discuss the opportunity for this upcoming season.

For Smart, winning a 3rd championship isn’t the main focus of the season.

“You don’t focus on that 3rd one or trying to get a 3-peat,” Smart said. “That’s not a focal point for us, we really don’t talk about it, we don’t worry about it. I get the hype around it, because when you think about how little it’s been done, it can be a special thing.”

His quest for another championship will rely heavily on the younger players.

“We’ve got a lot of new players,” Smart said. “A lot of those new players are hungry.”

For Georgia, winning a 3rd championship means not getting complacent. Smart believes that responsibility lies heavily on the team’s older players.

“My biggest concern right now is complacency, because you’ve got this senior, junior class who’s all won one,” Smart said.
