Kirby Smart on Monday shared his thoughts on Vanderbilt’s offense as the top-ranked Georgia prepare for its match up against the Commodores this weekend.
Smart said the part of Vanderbilt’s offense that “stands out” is its speed at receiver.
“They have really good wideouts,” Smith said. “I didn’t realize until I was watching all their games yesterday how fast they are at wideout.”
Vanderbilt senior receiver Will Sheppard currently leads the team in receiving yards (550), catches (35) and touchdowns (8). Sophomore Jayden McGowan has 307 receiving yards on 26 catches, while London Humphreys has 12 receptions for 300 yards and three TDs.
Smart noted senior quarterback Ken Seals has been doing “a great job” getting the ball to the Commodores receivers.
“They’ve had some injuries up front and had some guys going in and out of the lineup up front,” Smart said. “But (Seals) buys more time, he’s mobile, he’s able to highlight the players they have and they have really good wide receivers.”
In 2 starts for Vanderbilt, Seals has completed 39-of-65 passes for 535 yards and 4 TD passes.
“(Seals) buys time to make throws, off-platform throws, scramble throws,” Smart said. “He’s got a really good arm and he’s a good athlete. When he extends a play, it brings what the strength of their team is up because it gives him more time to make plays.”
The Commodores (2-5) host the Bulldogs (6-0) this Saturday at noon on CBS.
