Kirby Smart updates Malkom Parrish’s status, won’t rule senior CB out for opener
Bulldogs cornerback Malkom Parrish might not be ready for Georgia’s opener, which could spell trouble for the Bulldogs, facing an upset-minded Appalachian State.
The Mountaineers took Tennessee down to the wire last season, losing in overtime. Now, they get another shot at a strong SEC opponent in 2017. Georgia coach Kirby Smart met with members of the media on Monday and shared the latest report on Parrish.
“Still not determined yet,” Smart said. “We are fighting to get Malkom back.”
Parrish was a key contributor last season with two interceptions and 49 total tackles. His presence will be missed if he isn’t able to play.
“Do not know if he is going to make it back or not, but we are trying to get him back for this game, and the starting secondary will probably be determined throughout the week based on that and a couple of other guys who are in good position battles,” Smart said. “So, it will be close, probably a game-time decision at some of those spots in the secondary.”
Georgia hosts Appalachian State Saturday night beginning at 6:15 ET. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
