Kirk Herbstreit on first Playoff rankings: ‘Everybody needs to be pissed off’
Kirk Herbstreit made an appearance Wednesday on “The Pat McAfee Show” and said that no one should be happy about their team’s College Football Playoff ranking.
“Everybody needs to be pissed off,” Herbstreit said. “I think this committee is looking at the resume. I understand it. One thing I always think about is this is subjective. How AJ breaks it down, or how you do, it’s up to you. It’s your own rankings. What do you look at. I think the resume is very important. Ohio State going to South Bend at night and winning, that’s a big deal. Oregon beating Utah in Utah, a tough place to win, that’s a big deal. Washington beating Oregon at home, that’s a big deal. Texas winning in Tuscaloosa. Those are all big things.”
Herbstreit also said that the committee isn’t looking for the most deserving teams, it’s looking for the 4 best teams.
The Playoff committee released its first rankings of the season on Tuesday night. Ohio State came in at No. 1, to the surprise of some fans. Georgia followed at No. 2. Michigan was ranked No. 3. The rest of the top 6 was rounded out by Florida State at No. 4, Washington at No. 5, and Oregon at No. 6.
