Kirk Herbstreit is just one of many who have heralded Vanderbilt for the way the Commodores have performed, most notably being their groundbreaking win over the Alabama Crimson Tide.

To put it simply, Vanderbilt looks “different” as a team that was once deemed to be one of the lowliest in the nation now projects as a squad that can beat anyone and everyone.

“They have a $300 million dollar project right now going on with their facilities and their stadium. Clark Lea, I was blown away when he was a defensive coordinator at Notre Dame,” Herbstreit said.

“Just an impressive leader… he brought this quarterback (Diego Pavia) in. But I think we are looking at it like old Vandy. Like ‘wow, Alabama lost to Vandy.’ But this is a different Vandy. They’re going to have to handle prosperity against UK today, but that was as much about Vandy as it was about what’s wrong with Alabama in my opinion.”

And Herbstreit also has thoughts on what’s wrong with Alabama. In his eyes, it has more to do with culture than anything else.

“This Alabama team this year, they’re more busy talking to the opponent than and the opponent’s fans,” Herbstreit said. “That’s all brand new for Alabama. Not Alabama to me. So hopefully they clean that up and focus on the game.”

It will be interesting to see if Vanderbilt can stack wins here as they Commodores are set to kick off against the Wildcats at 7:45 p.m. ET in Lexington.
