Kirk Herbstreit is a busy guy during the football season. He’s a broadcaster for Amazon’s Thursday Night Football during the NFL season, and of course, he’s a mainstay on ESPN’s college football coverage.

The popular analyst is a panelist on College GameDay and also calls the SEC Game of the Week on Saturday nights alongside Chris Fowler.

But when Herbstreit signed the Amazon deal 3 years ago, he was worried that his GameDay days might be behind him.

On the Andy & Ari podcast via On3, Herbstreit says he thought he’d have to give up GameDay. But he added that he’s thrilled with where the show is at now due to the additions of Pat McAfee and Nick Saban:

“I thought when I took the Amazon deal 3 years ago that I’d probably have to give something up because it’s so hard to do all 3 of these things,” Herbstreit said. “And then not knowing that Pat would become a regular and obviously that Coach Saban would retire, I had no idea. Now, you couldn’t kick me off the set. I absolutely love it. We’re having a blast. I hope it’ll last a long time, having that group together. Even Stanford Steve, man, he’s been such a pleasure, honestly, just as a guy.”

Herbstreit has been on College GameDay since 1996. He’s a mainstay on the show, alongside Desmond Howard, the legendary Lee Corso and host Rece Davis.
