Lane Kiffin assesses Ole Miss loss, says LSU doesn’t want to ‘overreact’

Lane Kiffin understands that LSU‘s trip to Ole Miss was a missed opportunity amidst a heavily hyped affair.
The Tigers’ head coach is still keeping a level head, though, with plenty of games left to go — including Saturday’s home contest against Texas A&M.
“We just played a one-possession game that could’ve gone either way at the end. There were a bunch of plays that could’ve gone either way,” Kiffin said, according to Tiger Rag’s Glenn Guilbeau.
“So, we don’t overreact and say, ‘Well, now, we’ve got to change all these things.’ Just like if we would’ve won, we wouldn’t have said, ‘Now, we have all the answers – we don’t have to look at anything or change anything.’ So, I don’t overreact either way.”
One of the things that needs to change is the passing game. Sam Leavitt was brought in with the hope that he could bounce back from an injury-shortened season to help the Tigers win a national championship. He hasn’t been terrible, but there’s still room to improve. That fact was spotlighted late in the fourth quarter against the Rebels, as Leavitt missed an open receiver in the end zone with LSU needing a touchdown and two-point conversion to tie things up.
“We’ve got to make the throw,” Kiffin said. “We’ve got to get the passing game back on track. Just be more consistent.”
