Lane Kiffin believes Ole Miss still has ‘a lot of issues’ despite early success

Ole Miss is putting together a solid season so far with a clearly-outstanding offense and an early win over a tough team in Tulane.

The Rebels have a solid chance to take down Alabama this weekend and keep their momentum rolling against other good teams like LSU and Georgia.

Despite the early success and the trajectory Ole Miss seems to be on, head coach Lane Kiffin does not think the program is in in the best shape it’s been in during his tenure, which started in 2020.

Kiffin thinks his team still has a lot to accomplish this season, and one of the main goals is getting a fully-healthy team, which Ole Miss is far from having right now.

“No, I don’t think so, we’ve still got a lot of question marks, didn’t play well on defense last week,” Kiffin said during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday. “Talked about the injuries on offense, we haven’t played a snap with highly-decorated receiver in Zakhari (Franklin) that we signed. We haven’t played a snap with a highly-decorated, highly-recruited tight end that was supposed to be our starting end, and Tre Harris has been out for a while. He was leading the country in touchdown catches when he got hurt, so we’ve got a lot of issues.”

Getting some key players back will be huge for Ole Miss in terms of being the best team it can be. The test against Alabama this weekend will be a chance to prove how good this year’s team is, but even after that Kiffin thinks the team has a long way to go.
