Lane Kiffin calls out Wake Forest for breaking ‘unwritten rule’ of CFB

Lane Kiffin led Ole Miss to a dominating 40-6 road victory on Saturday — and in a surprising move — the Rebels’ head coach announced Wake Forest bought its way out of next year’s matchup that was scheduled to take place in Oxford.
On Monday, Kiffin met with the media and gave more insight into Wake Forest’s surprising decision to back out of a scheduled game with such little notice.
“That’s rarely ever done,” Kiffin said. “I’ve never really heard of doing it, and it really puts us at a big disadvantage. It is what it is. It obviously wasn’t appreciated very much, them putting us in that situation.”
The Ole Miss head coach continued to explain that it’s viewed as an unwritten rule for college football programs not to do this and outlined the scheduling issues it now causes for the Rebels.
“Now we’ve got to find somebody and most people are all scheduled up. And even when you find somebody, you’ve got to go pay them. It’s kind of an unwritten rule not to do that, actually.”
No. 5 Ole Miss was in complete control during the road trip to Wake Forest, coming away with a dominating 40-6 win. The matchup was part of a home-and-home agreement, but now the Deacons won’t be fulfilling the second part of the deal by cancelling the trip to Oxford next season.
It’s clear Kiffin is annoyed by the surprising move at the very least. It sounds like this is something that is sort of unprecedented when it comes to college football scheduling.
