Lane Kiffin has noted in the past the comparisons between Ole Miss’s 2023 and 2021 seasons.
The 2021 season came with a 3-0 start, followed by a loss to Alabama then a 3-game win streak. It’s exactly the process that the Rebels are going through this season, as they sport a 6-1 record.
Kiffin said at his press conference on Monday that it’s the way the 2021 and 2023 teams lost to the Crimson Tide then strung together a few wins.
Deep down, Kiffin said, it’s been about facing adversity head down, especially when players faced the 24-10 loss to Alabama this season.
“When you have games like the one against Alabama, you hit adversity,” Kiffin said. “You see those types of things and how players react.”
Kiffin said that the Rebels have had games this season, and in the past, that haven’t gone their way early on. But, he added, Ole Miss has gone on to come back and win those game most of the time.
“Everyone says they’re in right away,” Kiffin said, speaking more on adversity. “It’s kind of like life…when adversity happens, what do they really do when things don’t go their way.”
Kiffin noted it’s also when players feel like they’re not getting enough snaps or not getting the ball as much.
He continued, “That’s where I think this team has been different.”
Ole Miss (6-1), coming off a 28-21 win over Auburn this past weekend, is set to host Vanderbilt this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
