Lane Kiffin just hired youngest offensive coordinator in the nation, former Alabama staffer Charlie Weis Jr.
Lane Kiffin and FAU lost the architect of the school’s high-scoring offense this offseason as Kendal Briles jumped back to his Texas roots in taking over the offensive coordinator and quarterback coaches role in Houston. To replace him, Kiffin has named 24-year-old Charlie Weis Jr. as FAU’s new offensive coordinator.
Based on Kiffin’s replacement hire, it’s clear the FAU coach loves to hire sons of coaches. That makes sense, given that Kiffin himself is a son of a longtime coach in Monte Kiffin. Kiffin’s former OC Kendal is the son of former Baylor coach Art Briles.
Weis served on the Atlanta Falcons staff in 2017 as an offensive assistant serving under Steve Sarkisian. He previously held the same position in Tuscaloosa for Nick Saban. As if his name didn’t give it away, he is also the son of former Notre Dame head coach and Florida offensive coorindator Charlie Weis.
FAU now has the youngest offensive coordinator in the nation.
