Lane Kiffin pokes fun at his Ole Miss defense: ‘We look forward to hopefully making someone punt this year’
The start of the Lane Kiffin era in Oxford sure was fun for those that enjoy watching offensive football.
For Ole Miss fans yearning for the days of the Rebels being one of the top defensive teams in the SEC, not so much.
The Rebels finished dead last in the SEC after allowing 38.3 points per game and finishing the season ranked No. 118 in total defensive efficiency according to Football Outsiders’ analytics.
Ole Miss gave up 50 or more points three times and gave up 40 or more points five times during Kiffin’s first year on the job.
During a recent appearance at the Neshoba Country Fair, Kiffin poked fun at the failings of his team’s defense last season.
“We look forward to hopefully making someone punt this year. That would be exciting,” Kiffin joked.
