Dealing with fame and success is hard, especially if you’re a top player on an SEC football team.
But Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins has done it well through 2 years of college.
Judkins wasn’t the most hyped prospect coming out of high school. He was rated as a 3-star by 247Sports composite. But Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin saw something in Judkins, and it has paid off for the Rebels.
In his freshman season, Judkins picked up 1,567 yards and 16 touchdowns, proving early that he is one of the best running backs in the SEC.
With that success came a lot of praise, fame and recognition, and some players don’t handle that well — Kiffin mentioned Johnny Manziel as an example. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the off-the-field stuff and lose sight of what’s it important.
Kiffin praised Judkins’ maturity during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday afternoon.
“He’s really matured and taken the next step on and off the field as you asked, and it’s a lot to handle,” Kiffin said. “It’s a lot of, it’s funny you bring that up as you know the Johnny Manziel special is released just a reminder of how hard it is at that age to handle success. So Q’s done a great job at that.”
Judkins and the Rebels begin their season this Saturday when they take on Mercer.
