Lane Kiffin reveals how Ole Miss’ basketball dunk celebration came to be
Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels had a unique celebration on the sideline for the game against Vanderbilt. Whenever a player scored, they would dunk the football on a basketball goal the Rebels had on the sideline. The goal had a Vanderbilt logo taped to the backboard.

After the game, Kiffin was asked where the idea for the celebration came from. The coach explained to Cole Cubelic on the SEC Network that he had to think of something to motivate the team so they didn’t fall into a “trap game.”
“Just trying to think of all the things to make sure we were motivated this week, so it wasn’t kind of a trap game,” explained Kiffin. “I kind of looked at them, I thought Q’s was OK, and then after that I was kind of angry with how bad we played, so I didn’t watch.”
The Rebels scored just 7 points in the 2nd half after scoring 26 points in the 1st half. Luckily, the Rebel defense came to play and allowed just 7 points to the Commodores.
It will remain to be seen if the basketball goal returns to the sideline in future games. The Rebels welcome the Texas A&M Aggies to town next weekend.
