Lane Kiffin shares thoughts on backup QB battle, John Rhys Plumlee’s role
Ole Miss had its football media day on Monday and Head Coach Lane Kiffin took the podium to discuss many things about year 2 and how the team will look, including breaking down the backup recent quarterback battle.
Kiffin mentioned some of the names of the quarterbacks that have been impressive so far throughout camp.
The three names that he mentioned were sophomore Kinkhead Dent, freshman Luke Altmayer, and junior John Rhys Plumlee.
He even discussed the possibility of Plumlee playing receiver at times.
“Kinkhead and Luke will be in a really big competition for that spot,” Kiffin said. “Knowing that John, at times, could go back there. But the focus is John playing receiver. I don’t think you can get really good at that doing both having never done it before. He’s basically there full-time for right now while we’re in camp. We’ll see how we can develop him there, and that’s the only fair thing to do to him. If we go back and forth, it’s just too hard at this level to get really good at it.”
