Lane Kiffin is the guest to bring on a podcast if you want to get some unfiltered takes. The Ole Miss head football coach won’t randomly fly off the cuff, but he’ll let you know exactly what’s on his mind. He went on comedian Theo Von’s podcast earlier in the week, and he made an appearance on The Pivot Podcast on Friday.

During that hour-long conversation, Lane Kiffin talked about his father, Monte, as well as mentors Pete Carroll and Nick Saban. He showed some rawness that you don’t usually get in a press conference or post-practice setting.

Of course, Kiffin’s sharp wit also poked through. Briefly, when the conversation turned to the transfer portal and NIL, Kiffin sent a little zinger toward Miami quarterback Carson Beck.

Beck’s reported package of $4.3 million to join Miami this offseason was mentioned.

“Miami gave him $4.3 million?” Kiffin asked. “Did they watch his game against us?”

The show hosts laughed as Kiffin threw his hands up.

“I was trying not to go there. You set me up,” he said with a smile.

In a 28-10 win over Georgia last November, Ole Miss stymied the Bulldogs. Ranked No. 3 at the time, Georgia managed just 59 rushing yards while Beck was limited to 6 yards per pass attempt. He was also picked off midway through the fourth quarter, ending a drive inside the Ole Miss 30 with the Bulldogs trying to cut into a 12-point deficit.

Ole Miss ran 10 plays, gained 68 yards, and kicked a field goal to go up by 15 on the ensuing possession. Two plays into Georgia’s next offensive possession, Princely Umanmielen got to Beck for a strip-sack. Ole Miss kicked another field goal and Georgia went 4-and-out on its final possession of the game.

Beck ended that day with a 57.3 QBR, his worst rating in a game all year. He was sacked 5 times and had 2 turnovers.

Of course, Beck was better from then on. The Ole Miss game marked the end of a 6-game stretch that saw Beck toss 12 interceptions. Over his final 4 games of the year — all Georgia wins — Beck threw 11 touchdowns without an interception.

He transferred to Miami during the winter transfer window, where he’ll look to pick up the reins from Cam Ward and keep the good times rolling. Miami is hoping to make the College Football Playoff. Ole Miss is hoping to do the same. Ironically, Georgia has better odds to make the Playoff than either.
