Lane Kiffin weighs in on Ole Miss QB battle ahead of spring practices

Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels have a big decision to make at the quarterback position in 2023.
As the Rebels get going on spring practices, Oklahoma State transfer Spencer Sanders, 2022 Ole Miss starting QB Jaxson Dart and LSU transfer Walker Howard will compete for the starting job this fall.
On Tuesday, Kiffin discussed the quarterback battle, saying there’s a long time left to make a decision. He added that the 3 options the Rebels have are all good ones:
#OleMiss head coach Lane Kiffin on this year’s quarterback battle:
“We’ve got a long time (from) spring to fall to figure it out…Basically to have two returning starting quarterbacks and a vey high-profile recruit in there who redshirted last year is really good.” pic.twitter.com/fuhDZ0t4Sq

Dart threw for 2,974 yards, 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2022 for the Rebels. He added 614 yards and 1 score as a runner.
Timeline for a decision?
Don’t expect Kiffin to name a starter this spring. There is no rush, especially when the Rebels have 3 strong candidates for the position. It will be interesting to see how reps are split this spring, though, and who gets the most action during Ole Miss’s spring scrimmage.
The Rebels open the 2023 season on Saturday, Sept. 2, at home against the FCS Mercer Bears.
