LaNorris Sellers has told Shane Beamer that he expects to play in Week 4.

“LaNorris assures me he’s good and will be ready to go,” Shane Beamer told reporters in his Tuesday media opportunity.

Sellers suffered an ankle injury in the loss to LSU. He helped South Carolina jump out to a 24-10 1st half lead with 4- and 75-yard rushing scores. In limited action, Sellers had the 88 rushing yards and 2 scores, also going 9-of-16 passing for 113 yards.

While Sellers plans to play against Akron, Beamer is ready for the case that the quarterback doesn’t go on Saturday. In the LSU game, Robby Ashford filled in for Sellers. Ashford was 2-of-4 passing for 42 yards and logged 11 carries for 11 yards, with a long of 15 yards.

Ashford would get the nod on Saturday if Sellers is ruled out for the Akron game. Per David Cloninger of The Post and Courier, Davis Beville is next in line behind Ashford, but Beamer mentioned that Luke Doty could potentially move back to the QB room.

Doty has been at South Carolina since the 2020 season. He began his Gamecock career as a quarterback, but made the move to wide receiver in 2023 and is listed as an “ATH” on the 2024 roster.
