Sports gambling has been picking up a lot of steam in the past year, and No. 1 Alabama has been one of the top teams to bet on in college football.
With their continued dominance however, it’s been hard on the Las Vegas bookmaking computers to come up with odds for the Crimson Tide. For example, Alabama was -99,000 favorites to best Louisiana-Lafayette straight-up on Saturday. That means you would have to bet $99,000 to win just $100.
According to ESPN, someone took those moneyline odds, and put down $1,579.65 on Alabama to beat Louisiana straight-up.
Sounds like almost a sure thing, right? Well the payout for that large amount of money put down was just $1.60.
Putting down over a thousand dollars to win less than two dollars is pretty astounding, but the bettor won of course, as the Crimson Tide defeated the Ragin’ Cajuns handily, 56-14.
