It’s hard enough to win 10 games in a college football season.
It’s even more difficult to do that two years in a row, even in the SEC, especially if you’re not Alabama.
Three SEC teams have never had consecutive 10-win seasons. And one of those has never had a 10-win season. But we’re not going to reveal those schools just yet.
Here’s a look at the last time each SEC team has had back-to-back 10-win seasons.
Alabama
Including its just completed national championship season of 2015, the Crimson Tide have won 10 or more games eight consecutive years. The last time Bama had single-digit victories in a season was 2007, when it finished 7-6 in Nick Saban’s first year in Tuscaloosa.
Arkansas
The Razorbacks’ past two banner years were 2010 and 2011, when they finished 10-3 and 11-2, respectively, under Bobby Petrino. The Hogs have gone 22-28 the past four seasons.
Auburn
This might be hard to believe, but more than a quarter century has passed since the Tigers’ last consecutive double-digit win campaigns — they were 10-2 in 1988 and 1989.
Florida
The Gators last won a national championship in 2008 when they finished 13-1 and they followed that with another 13-1 season in 2009, both under Urban Meyer.
Georgia
Despite finishing 10-3 for the second straight season, the Bulldogs canned Mark Richt and replaced him Georgia alum and Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. Coincidentally, Georgia’s record over Richt’s 15 seasons at Athens averaged out to — you guessed it — 10-3.
Kentucky
The Wildcats are one of the three aforementioned SEC teams to have never had back-to-back 10-win seasons. They have had only two 10-win seasons period — in 1950, when they finished 11-1 under Bear Bryant, and in 1977, when they went 10-1.
LSU
Les Miles has reminded us that The Tigers went 10-3 in 2012 and 2013, the final two years of a four-year stretch of double digit victories.
Mississippi State
Like Kentucky, the Bulldogs have never had consecutive 10-win campaigns. They went 10-3 in 2014, 10-2 in 1999 and 10-0-1 in 1940.
Missouri
The Tigers won back-to-back SEC East titles in 2013 and 2014, when they finished 12-2 and 11-3, respectively.
Ole Miss
For the Rebels, you go all the way back to 1959, when they went 10-1-0 and followed that with a 10-0-1 season in 1960.
South Carolina
Under Steve Spurrier, the Gamecocks enjoyed the greatest three-season run in school history when they went 11-2 each year from 2011 through 2013.
Tennessee
It’s been more than a decade for the Volunteers, who finished 10-3 in 2003 and 2004.
Texas A&M
It’s been more than two decades for the Aggies, who went 10-2-0 in 1993 and 10-0-1 in 1994 when they were in the Southwest Conference, which disbanded in 1996.
Vanderbilt
Forget about consecutive 10-win seasons; the Commodores have never had one 10-win season. Their best stretch was two straight nine-win seasons, which they last had in 2012 and 2013 when they went 9-4 each year under James Franklin.
