When it comes to passing, 300 yards is a magic number. When discussing the quality of quarterbacks, the number of 300-yard games in a season or career is a telling statistic.

As college football has progressed, the level of proficiency on offense has risen and subsequently, more yards and more points are required to win. Quarterbacks find themselves in situations where they have to pass for more than 300 yards just to stay competitive. Therefore, having a season include at least one 300-yard game is no longer as rare as it once was.

Here we take a look at the last time each team in the SEC produced a 300-yard passer

ALABAMA

Year: 2014
Player: Blake Sims
Games: vs. Florida, vs. Auburn

He won both these games, but had almost the same amount of interceptions as touchdowns against Auburn. Against Florida, however, Sims passed for 445 yards, 4 touchdowns, and only 1 interception.

ARKANSAS

Year: 2012
Player: Tyler Wilson
Games: vs. Jacksonville State, vs. Rutgers, vs. Kentucky, vs. LSU

Wilson had a 2-2 record in 300-yard passing games in 2012. His best was against Kentucky, in which he passed for 372 yards, 5 touchdowns, and no interceptions.

AUBURN

Year: 2014
Player: Nick Marshall
Game: vs. Alabama

This game produced a lot of offense for both teams. Marshall threw for 456 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception.

FLORIDA

Year: 2013
Player: Tyler Murphy
Game: vs. Vanderbilt

After Jeff Driskel came out due to a broken leg, Murphy filled in for the rest of the season at quarterback. His play was inconsistent, but he broke 300 against Vanderbilt by totaling 305 passing yards. However, the Gators still lost to the Commodores.

GEORGIA

Year: 2014
Player: Hutson Mason
Game: vs. Florida

On average, Mason passed for 167 yards per game last season. He almost doubled that in the game against Florida. Despite his efforts, the Bulldogs still lost.

KENTUCKY

Year: 2014
Player: Patrick Towles
Game: vs. Tennessee-Martin, vs. Florida, vs. Mississippi State

Towles’ play was inconsistent from game to game. Most of the season saw him around 150-170 yards. He had the most passing yards against the Bulldogs (390), but had a percent completion rate of only 55.8.

LSU

Year: 2013
Player: Zach Mettenberger
Games: vs. Georgia, vs. Mississippi State, vs. Furman

Mettenberger managed back-to-back 300-yard games. Even though the game ended in a narrow loss, his best was against Georgia, where he passed for 372 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no interceptions.

MISSISSIPPI STATE

Year: 2014
Player: Dak Prescott
Games: vs. Arkansas, vs. Georgia Tech

Prescott’s first 300-yard game came during the Bulldogs’ stretch at No. 1 in the Associated Press poll. The second in the same season was the Capital One Orange Bowl, in which he passed for 453 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception.

MISSOURI

Year: 2014
Player: Maty Mauk
Games: vs. Toledo, vs. Indiana

Mauk came very close to the 300-yard mark during all of the last four games of Mizzou’s regular season. However, he only broke 300 early in the season against non-conference opponents.

OLE MISS

Year: 2014
Player: Bo Wallace
Games: vs. Boise State, vs. Vanderbilt, vs. Louisiana Lafayette, vs. Auburn

Even though Ole Miss lost the game, Wallace’s performance against Auburn was the most meaningful of all his over-300 games. He passed for 339 yards, 2 touchdowns, no interceptions, and had a 70.0 percent completion rate.

SOUTH CAROLINA

Year: 2014
Player: Dylan Thompson
Games: vs. Texas A&M, vs. Auburn, vs. Tennessee

Thompson secured yardage in the 200-to-250 range in most of the games he played last season. The games where he broke 300 were the ones South Carolina struggled in, fought for, but lost.

TENNESSEE

Year: 2014
Player: Joshua Dobbs
Game: vs. South Carolina

The quarterback position at Tennessee was in flux for much of the season, but Dobbs proved he was the best option during the South Carolina game. He threw for 301 passing yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.

TEXAS A&M

Year: 2014
Player: Kenny Hill
Games: vs. South Carolina, vs. Rice, vs. Arkansas, vs. Mississippi State, vs. Ole Miss

If there were doubts about Texas A&M’s offensive productivity after Johnny Manziel’s departure, Hill refuted them with his high-powered performance. Of his 300-yard games, he was the strongest against South Carolina, racking up 511 passing yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions.

VANDERBILT

Year: 2013
Player: Austyn Carta-Samuels
Games: vs. Ole Miss, vs. UAB, vs. Missouri

ACS was the best quarterback Vanderbilt had seen in a while. In his best 300-yard game, he compiled 334 passing yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interception and a 79.3 percent completion rate.
