Veteran Texas A&M defensive back Leon O’Neal announces he’s entered NCAA transfer portal

After appearing in 18 games in two seasons for Texas A&M, it appears Leon O’Neal’s time in College Station has come to an end.
On Thursday, the rising junior defensive back announced he has entered the NCAA transfer portal. While entering into the NCAA transfer portal does not mean a player cannot return to their current team, it does allow other programs to openly contact them regarding a transfer.
Considering O’Neal’s comments declaring his decision to enter the portal, it doesn’t sound like he will be returning to Texas A&M:
“I want to thank Texas A&M for everything. Every game was one I’ll never forget. Win, lose or draw The 12th man never lost they’re (sic) spirit. I want to thank my brothers for the love and support. Our bond will last forever. I have now placed myself in the transfer portal.”
O’Neal registered 55 tackles and two interceptions during his two seasons on the field for the Aggies after signing with the program after being rated as a four-star recruit and 2018 U.S. Army All-American selection.
While this news hurts the program’s depth, the Aggies did sign arguably the nation’s best defensive back class in the 2020 recruiting cycle as five-star Jaylon Jones and four-stars Antonio Johnson, Joshuah Moten and Brian George signed with Jimbo Fisher’s program.
