LSU RB Leonard Fournette has broken LSU’s single-season rushing record on the same day Alabama RB Derrick Henry did the same for his respective school.
Fournette surpassed Charles Alexander’s record of 1,686 yards set in 1977 season during the third quarter of Saturday’s game against Texas A&M.
Despite a recent three-game dip in production from his sizzling start to the season, the sophomore still entered Week 13 leading the country with an average of 158.2 rushing yards per game.
Fournette, a finalist earlier in the week for the Doak Walker Award for the nation’s best running back, finished the game with 159 yards on 32 carries with a touchdown against the Aggies.
Here is where Fournette stands after Saturday’s game.
PLAYER | RUSHING YARDS | SEASON |
---|---|---|
1. Leonard Fournette | 1,741 | 2015 |
2. Charles Alexander | 1,686 | 1977 |
